Fillings
Fillings
A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay or fracture back to normal function and shape. If your tooth requires a filling, Dr. Blevins will first remove the decayed tooth material, clean the affected part of the tooth, and then fill the cleaned out area with a filling material. There are several types of filling materials.
- Amalgam (silver) fillings are a cost effective choice and are very tolerant to wear. Due to their dark color, they are not recommended for the front teeth.
- Composite (white) fillings are a plastic material matched to the coor of your teeth. While they may be less noticeable, they are not recommended for very large fillings due to chipping and wearing. They can also stain from coffee, tea, soda, and tobacco products.
- Porcelain fillings are also called inlays and onlays. They are made in the lab and cemented in the tooth. They are tooth colored and resist staining.
